Farm Wife ~~ Chore Coat

My precious chore coat is a burgundy, plaid flannel with a quilted lining. It's served me well for about three years now; the cuffs are frayed and the buttonholes have become too large for the buttons, so most of them won't stay fastened. But, I think I can make it last the rest of this winter. Let's see ~~ what's in my pockets today:

from left to right ~~

Two pairs of gloves ~ one pair for dirty work and a pair of brown jersey gloves for warmth

An Old Timer pocket knife for cutting hay twine

A yellow tag button for fastening an ear tag in a calf's ear

A little blue light to guide me past cow patties in the barn on the way to the overhead light switch, when chores come late

Nylon cord ~ one never knows when a gate might need to be tied

Tissues in a sandwich bag ~ cold air can give a gal the sniffles

A Sonic peppermint candy to fend off the weak trembles

My chore coat serves me well.

Charlotte

  2. It's funny you posted this, Charlotte~ I had to wash my "chore coat" yesterday and when I cleaned out my pockets I found: a strand of twine, a bandana (for wiping my nose *haha*) my jersey gloves, an empty ziploc bag, and a ball of raw wool. ( I have NO idea where that came from or why I put it in my pocket! *grin*)
I can identify with everything you had in your pockets!

  3. It does indeed serve you well dear Charlotte. You make me feel like a very lazy girl in comparison to the very real work you do. I admire you deeply.

  4. Oh, my goodness!!! I love this post.
Just tonight my grandson needed a candy package opened and before using my husband's pocket knife, I asked what the last thing he cut with it was. His reply...hay string.

  5. I need to give you back the coat you gave me last winter. It is a men's medium...would it fit? Sadly, it is too small for me. :(

  6. Love my old jackets and heavy shirts. Need pockets and more pockets - for cell phone - this needed when you wander in the woods by yourself :)

  7. Giggle, looks like my pockets! Yep, you can't be a farm girl and not have a good ole farm coat that is well broken in.

  8. Of course I will continue to follow your blog as it is one of my favorites. I have seen the award free buttons on several blogs not knowing that is what it meant. (To tell you the truth, it was very difficult for me to figure how to award anyway). Hope the expected rainfall does not cause you any problems tomorrow
