Dessie

This is Dessie, named after my maternal grandma, whose name was either Dessie Charlie, or Charlie Dessie; however she was called Charlie.

Grandma, at age 17; I couldn't find her date of birth, but she and Grandpa were married in 1906.

I don't remember much about Grandma, but this is the way I do remember her.  We didn't visit with them much; my sister has told me that Grandma didn't like our Daddy, which must have been troubling to Mama.  In 1952 Grandma had cancer and during her last days her children took turns staying with her at home.  I do remember going with Mama one week and being kept awake most of the nights by a clock that chimed every fifteen minutes.  Grandma died in August of 1952.

  1. I love your Dessie Doll and the pictures of your grandma are precious.. My daddy had a little sister named Dessie. She died when she was 8 years old of diptheria.. Dessie must have been a popular name back then..

  6. Hi there. Love your new doll. You did very well. I like the fabric you made her dress with too. It is nice that you named her after your grandmother. And nice you have the pictures of her to treasure. I am sure she would "smile" knowing you did this.

  7. Your grandmother was a very pretty young woman and was very attractive in her older years. Sorry you didn't have a chance to know her well. My maternal grandmother died before I was born and my Mother and paternal grandmother didn't get along too well. So, I didn't get to know her too well either. Love the braids on your Dessie Doll. :~)

  8. This must be the week for writing about our grandmothers! I know what you mean about the name: one of my great grandmothers was either named Donnie Cassidy or Donna Cassidy. I've seen it both ways in the family history. My mom was named "Donnie" after her.
