May Apron

Can you believe it's time for the May apron, the fifth one!

This apron gives good coverage: crossed in back, buttoned forward shoulder line, and a big, generous pocket.  It is made in a soft green and pink cotton print, with edges bound in pink homemade bias tape.

The copyright date on the pattern envelope is 1971.  It appears to have been used more than once.

Only two pattern pieces are needed to make this one, so it might be an easy "first" apron for someone to make.

  2. Oooh~ I love this one, Charlotte... I like those "full-coverage" aprons because I make such big messes I need one that covers everything I'm wearing. *haha* I just love those older patterns... I have quite a few that belonged to my mother and they are still classics.
You sure do have a pretty model! :)

  6. There was a children's pattern just like that when our girls were small (twenty plus years ago). I made LOTS of them. I'd love to find a full size one, it would make a very good apron.

  8. Very cute! Looks like an easy one to make so that's a bonus. I get messy when baking too, so one with more coverage like this works better for me. :D

Hope you have a great weekend!

  9. What a great apron, looks easy enough for me who has not used a sewing machine in many, many years. I've been thinking about aprons lately as I usually just wipe my hands on a towel or whatever shirt I happen to have on. I know, shame on me. :-)

Your grand daughter is a lovely model.

Thank you for visiting my blog and leaving your very kind and encouraging comment. It means a LOT.

  10. This apron reminds me of the kind my German grandmother would wear. I never saw her without her apron on, unless it was a special occasion.

  13. Great apron. I really like this one alot. It'd be perfect for my bread making because I tend to get flour everywhere. lol Thanks for posting the pattern with it's info. Even though it's from 1971, I'm going to go in search of it or one like it.
Wishing you a lovely week. :)
