We Still Have Ice and Snow

Although the sun did shine this morning, I never did see the temperature above 32* so not much melting took place.  We were hoping a lot of this would melt today since more snow and ice is predicted for tonight and tomorrow.  With this much ice, plus the snow, on the roof of the chicken houses, there's a lot of weight bearing down on them.  Too much weight and the roof could collapse ~ oh my!  What a mess that would be!  It's always on our minds when we have a lot of ice and snow.  The farmer told me if I hear things beginning to crack when I'm inside there, to run to the wall.

The storm caught me without any food for the bird feeder, so I put some of my pecan shells on the front porch for them to pick out the little bits of nuts left in the shells.  They were so cute, darting here and there, eating.  Today I saw two of them having a fuss and I could hear them having a disagreement over the nuts.  Precious little creations...

  2. I think maybe they've changed the forecast, and maybe - just maybe- we won't get any more ice or snow. And I think the temperatures are supposed to be a bit warmer than they had thought too. It would be an awful thing if the roof collapsed. :((

  3. It's very cold here too, but we only got a little bit of snow.

I hope you don't get more and have problems with the roof collapsing--yikes!

Sweet of you to put the pecan shells out for the birds. They are fun to watch.

  4. You must live in my neighborhood only I don't think it got up to 32 degrees here today. Son said that the 114 was closed from i35W to Grapevine. More tomorrow, I don't think we will be out until Tues or Wed. Stay safe and warm, I hope the chickens are O.K..

  5. we only got up to 26 today but we had some start to melt in the driveway and up on the road in front of us. Hope we don't get more tonight I think the chances are very small. Good thing it will start to get above freezing soon daytime anyhow.

  6. We don't have the ice or snow yet. Got a few flurries this morning which didn't stick but it is cold, below 30. Hope your chicken house roof holds up. Nancy

  7. Hopefully, Mother Nature will go a little easier on us this next go around. But, there's always plenty to worry about on the farm. Thanks to your industry, I doubt that there was one wasted tidbit from the pecan harvest. I hope the birds enjoyed their treat as much as we are ours!

  8. The snow is pretty but it does make things difficult. I am glad you updated, and I hope the next round is gentle.
It is looking like it might be a long harsh winter.

  9. Its cold at the edge of Tennessee and Kentucky - ice but no snow.
They both keep me homebound and do not need to fall.
    As time goes by
I like cold weather less and less.
Looking out the window is beautiful here at the edge of the woods
but not being out in it...

  11. Ooooh~ BRRRR!! Your pictures look so cold, Charlotte!! I like snow okay but I don't like ice. The main reason is with James working for the power company, I don't see him for days when we have ice. Did your power stay on? Hope so....
    Love your bird pictures. :)
