Mouse in the House

As quick as the blink of an eye
something seemed to fly by!
Eek!!
There's a mouse in the house!
I must set a trap!
And for sheer ease
I'll bait it with cheese;
but now I'm wondering,
which will he like better,
Velveeta or sharp cheddar?

So I put a small bit
on the paddle's tip
and set the spring in place.
Mouse has waited all day
to come out and play,
and when the lights go out
he runs round about,
right past the trap by the wall.

He passed the cheese.
He wants a treat;
something gooey, soft and sweet.
He didn't think I'd hear him
as he wriggled and chewed inside the sack.
But he didn't know I had quite a knack
for listening for little mouse smacks.

I grabbed the sack by its top
and he jumped and he jumped to no avail;
he couldn't escape from this cat food bag jail.
I'll take him to the barn where there are cats.
No more mouse in the house, and that will be that!

  2. Clever Charlotte! Love the poem! I think a mouse could gnaw down the entire house and I would never hear it. I think you probably gave the little critter a better than 50/50 chance to make it, even in a barn full of cats! :~)

  3. Love it and glad you got him. We had the same problem a few weeks ago. I tell my husband they like to play their ball games after we go to bed. We caught him one night and hopefully there's not anymore.. I love your poems and would love to read more. Blessings, xo

  4. Haha! I love this, Charlotte. He'll have a fighting chance in the barn, maybe. :)

  5. What a cute poem! As we all battle mice at one time or another, I think sometimes they win! We had one get in a low vent grate and my husband took it off and I was to help shoo it out the door. After multiple screams from me and my husband welding the fly swatter, we managed to get it out the door. Phew, THAT was an ordeal. Scared the poor thing half out of its mind I bet.
