Sunday

We attend church in a small assembly; twenty faithful people most Sundays. Sometimes it's a struggle for me to go, to be among people. We're always greeted at the door with multiple handshakes. The services are simple; no need for a Power Point screen to be lowered in front of us with the notes and words of hymns, really no need for hymnals, for in my case, the words of these songs have been written in my heart a long, long time.

Amazing grace - how sweet the sound - ...

Rock of ages, cleft for me. Let me hide myself in Thee ...

Wonderful story of love: tell it to me again ...

Sing the wondrous love of Jesus, sing His mercy and His grace ...

The words slip from my tongue in praise; they come natural and I feel the presence of God in them.

Blessings, Charlotte

  1. Oh, thank you for the blessing. My favorite post ever. A struggle to be among people? I fear when I retire, I may become a hermit as is the case with many of my family. I would be interested to know if you ever quilted in double knit as my mother did. I didn't really care for them then but kinda' like them now...maybe just 'cause they were hers. Have a blessed evening.

  2. That is a beautiful quilt block. It must've took some major patience to get the circle of flying geese to lays so flat. The applique of the little girl praying in the middle is precious and echoes the inspiration and love in your post about the special little church of your heart.

  3. What does your fear of people stem from?
I'm not a very social person. I prefer to be at home with my family instead of out and about. My husband is very social. He loves to be out and about and it seems while being around a lot of people is draining for me, it gives him more energy.

    Your church services sound wonderful.
    The quilt is beautiful.

  5. What a precious quilt, Charlotte. Thank you for sharing your heartfelt thoughts. And you are so right, when the words are written on our hearts, we don't need a hymnal.

  8. The hymns are a part of us - stored in our hearts and memories from the earliest years of our lives. They are indeed precious.
The little quilt is just lovely Charlotte. You are so gifted.

  10. Beautiful post, Charlotte. I have not been a churchgoer for many years. But your depiction of a small community is very lovely and enticing! I am an introvert and have learned, in the past several years, how much I relish my solitude. I can identify with your struggle.

  11. I love the old songs, too. I also attend a very small country church. It was built in the late 1800s. Your quilt is beautiful.

  12. That's my idea of "church" Charlotte.... nothin' fancy, just a handful of people turning their hearts to Him in praise.

  14. I followed you from Ellen. I relate to your words. Now that I have been allowed to return to my country property - I do not like to leave. Stopped going to church recently. The little one I loved with simplicity has grown to large and no one hardly speaks. Guess I yearn for a time in years past.
    I will return....
